by The winery couple There’s no shortage of real estate for the driver and front passenger, and rear-seat passengers have plenty of elbow and knee room, although rear headroom is still tight—largely thanks to the panoramic sunroof (reminder: it’s standard). I traded in my Range Rover Evoque for this reliable Acura. Have You Driven the 2019 Acura RDX? on Wed Jun 19 2019. While the variable-ratio electrically assisted power steering provides direct and linear response in all modes, the RDX carries an ace up its sleeve in the form of the latest version of Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, which is probably why all the vehicles Acura made available for our first drive were so equipped. I love driving it, and it is the perfect size for me. HUD is great!
We’re not thrilled with the vertical dogbone of transmission controls that stamps the center stack with its inefficient shape, but that’s all overcome by the grace notes of luxury that Acura’s long skipped over as it tried to figure out exactly what its “premium” label meant. Small things make a big difference. A pair of hard buttons provide back and home functions, and a smaller “B-zone” located directly to the right provides touchpad operation of a secondary function such as music selection, which is displayed on the right side of the screen.
The RDX has a newfound sense of style this year. (Those so inclined can dive deep into the submenus and change the default mode to Comfort.) Performance is very good with excellent handling. The top $46,395 2019 RDX Advance tops it all off with a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, 16-way power-adjustable seats, driver-adjustable shocks, a hands-free tailgate, and acoustic side glass.
The wheelbase grows to 108.3 inches from 105.7, the overall length expands to 186.8 inches from 184.4, and height is up slightly to 65.7 inches from 65.0. A Snow mode modulates everything down a half-step for more predictable behavior. The Advance edition is the only one with surround-view camera system, however. 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful.
The previous six-speed automatic is replaced with a ten-speed, and the all-wheel-drive system is upgraded with torque vectoring. From a well-equipped base price of $38,295, the 2019 Acura RDX offers a few interesting configurations that cover the spectrum of luxury-crossover needs. (Read more about how we rate cars.). (Read more about how we rate cars.). I plan to take my car back again to forcefully make them fix the car.
The RDX isn’t particularly light or heavy for its size, with a curb weight of 3,783 pounds in base front-drive trim, or 4,068 pounds as an AWD Advance. Email .
from Bayside NY Love the fact that I can change driving modes.
In my non-car-knowing brain, I believe this is a heat issue.
'Upgrade' from Honda to Acura: Bad Experience, by BHuntersville The RDX would often clunk down a gearchange mid-corner, delivering throttle inputs just a fraction late. I made the mistake of showing her the 2018 Volvo XC-60, which set the standard of comfort that she wanted to have. The new RDX rides on a new chassis with 2.6 inches more length between the wheels, which means the old complaints of skimpy rear-seat leg room have washed away. The creamy-smooth transmission can skip gears when downshifting – going straight from tenth to sixth, or seventh to third, for seamless deceleration, and it reacts quickly when you play with the wheel-mounted paddle shifters. So far we have recorded a little over 1000 miles on our RDX. from Northford CT It didn’t feel faster or easier to manipulate than a traditional touchscreen, but works well with practice and doesn’t require you to take your eyes off the road. Inner and outer hot-stamped front-door rings increase body rigidity, while the rear frame substructure was specifically designed to distribute suspension loads over a wider area. To that end: a plunging roofline, wide stance, and low overhangs. Rather than work like a trackpad on a laptop, where your finger controls a cursor, any touch on the pad translates to the exact location on the screen.Need navigation? Under the hood, the RDX swaps its 3.5-liter V-6 for a rorty 2.0-liter turbo-4 that makes 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which peaks at 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. The platform is also now unique to Acura, instead of shared with Honda.
Based on the Honda Civic Type R’s turbo-4, this energetic dual-overhead-cam engine has 40 percent more low-rpm torque than the V-6 did, and it’s teamed with a new 10-speed automatic that can toggle down 4 speeds at a time, if it must. They thought of everything with the, by BCough It’s a magnitude easier to use the new system than the old twist-knob setup, but there’s a caveat: the system doesn’t support Android Auto yet, because that interface lacks code to handle the touchpad. 5 out of 5 stars .
The engine itself is a willing unit that combines proven VTEC technology with a low-inertia turbo to create a broad torque plateau unmatched by the outgoing naturally aspirated V-6.
Access them anywhere. Hear me out on this: It’s a good thing. There’s a rational level of body lean, and it has an absorbent ride. 9 out of 9 people found this review helpful. Known as SH-AWD (for Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive), it can send up to 70 per cent of torque to the rear axle, and from there, distribute up to 100 per cent to either rear wheel. It’s not self-consciously restrained like rivals from the Continent. (Read more about how we rate cars.). It’s framed by deep lines that direct air around the car and around big LED headlights. The top-level Advance trim brings a 10.5-inch head-up display, adaptive dampers, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a hands-free power liftgate, acoustically insulated side glass, genuine wood interior trim, leather upholstery, and 16-way power front seats with adjustability for lumbar, side bolsters, and thigh extensions. For 2019, Acura’s smallest SUV underwent a dramatic makeover, and love it or hate it, the RDX stands out — like all the way out, with its domineering, blinged-out shield grille, beefed-up body and sharp angles.
We had been looking several years for a replacement for my wife’s 2006 Lexus RX330. The Sport and Sport Plus drive modes adjust throttle and transmission, and steering weight and response. The stoic Audi Q5, by comparison, feels almost reluctant when pressed to perform similar tight maneuvers, leading us to wonder just how much work its rear wheels are doing. Paddle shift controls on all models turn the driving experience into something akin to a video game, but the transmission’s programmed well enough that most drivers may never realize those switches behind the steering wheel actually do things.
SHARE STORY . The Infinite QX50 and a new Lexus RX were in the final running when I sat in the new RDX Advance the first week it was released. Greater road clearance as well.
Greater legroom and greater headroom. Storage space abounds, and trim quality has made gains-along with sound quality, damped in the most expensive RDX by thicker front and side glass.
Despite its claimed 57/43 front/rear weight distribution, the RDX with SH-AWD maintains a tight line when pushed.
The 2019 model seeks to banish the idea that Acura's compact luxury CUV will stir no more emotion than a well-built, premium toaster. By Kyle Kinard.
Luxurious, high-tech, and sporty.
Acura calls the 2019 RDX its sportiest compact crossover yet, and claims the X3 and Q5 as its spirit animals.
Overall, this is a noble effort with intuitive functionality, although we didn’t find it to be the game-changing solution that the world’s automakers apparently seek. Compare the 2019 Acura RDX against the competition. Important to note that you cannot control anything as far as navigation, music, radio, clock, change modes of drive, etc. Really think this is a great, stylish and fun vehicle. Leaning heavily on the software to extract the RDX’s agility, however, leads to a slightly synthetic overall feel, and steering feedback is but a myth, although the effort does build progressively. (Read more about how we rate cars.). Overall, the 2019 RDX is a good-looking, comfortable, sprightly and value-priced entry in the compact luxury SUV segment. The turbo-4 buzz has been damped, but at the same time it’s augmented with pleasant engine sounds filtered and piped into the cabin.
Call it a blessing, since the RDX has long been one of the smaller vehicles in its niche. Android Auto will be added as soon as Google sorts through some red tape on it, and it’ll be an over-the-air retrofit when available.
The 2019 Acura RDX is delightful, with a comfortable interior, refined powertrain and engaging road manners, but it’s got a problem Titanic enough to sink its overall appeal: a confounding, overcomplicated multimedia system.
But hopping into the X3 exposes the nuance Acura’s missing: whiffs of road texture under harder driving, a gradual, intuitive buildup in effort as you smear in steering angle. Still, not everything is perfect. Log In, by Gregg PS There, the base chairs come with a dozen or more adjustments, sit relatively high for a good command seating position, and offer swell support, especially at the midsection. A-Spec RDX crossovers can put on two-tone black and red upholstery. It’s shy on leg support for bigger passengers, and the seatback doesn’t recline, though its seatback angle proved napworthy on our long driving day. I have read the blogs and this is a major problem.
I like the car, but the electronics suck. The RDX is agile and handles hard curves very well, and the SH-AWD keeps it tucked into the corners. Sometimes I can set a station and sometimes I can't - it's up to the car's mood.
The 16-way seats on top models are well worth their increase. COMPACT LUXURY SUVS are 4000 pounds of contradiction. The new interior significantly ups the RDX’s luxury quotient. The RDX’s turbo 2.0-liter four-banger is gruff and flexible, delivering 280 lb-ft of torque from 1600 rpm and 272 hp at 6500 rpm. Did you?
The day after I got my car back, it started again. The Technology trim adds navigation, a 12-speaker audio system, two rear-seat USB ports, leather-trimmed sport seats, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
