Later, claiming that they were interrupted by attacking Arikara, the pair grabbed the rifle, knife, and other equipment belonging to Glass and took flight. The men were convinced Glass would not survive his injuries; nevertheless, they carried Glass on a litter for two days, but doing so greatly slowed the pace of the group's travel. Itâs also hopelessly cheesy at times, as when an obvious man-in-a-bear-suit attacks. Granted, this was because they shot the movie in Italy in the â70s where they could put anything short of snuff footage on-screen. Letâs set the scene. Riveting stuff. The story gets boring, the portrayal of the Native Americans is questionable, and I had no reason to want Bass to survive.  Glass and his party discovered a settlement of 38 lodges of Arikara. I’ve scoured the Internet and can find no reason for the name change other than to keep it fictional. That brutality works in service to a greater story. In The Revenant, the Captain is portrayed by a man who has been taking Hollywood by storm, with his range of skills and performances, Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Force Awakens ), who plays the character very differently to his Man in the Wilderness counterpart John Huston (The Maltese Falcon).
